This is really nice.I have a Vision 2050 for my son who is now 3 years 7 months and am at the stage of making the plans/strategy for the vision to become reality.Thank you for this challenge.Yes,one of my goals is for him to treasure God's word in his heart.I also expose him to stuff so that he can know the world. This is so that when he gets to school,he can already have a small idea of what he wants, then we will compare with the plans laid for Vision 2050.Part of the exposure includes taking him bi-weekly for swimming, tennis, and music. But with your challenge,I better be serious and have a better way of actualizing the vision with good plans and strategy.

"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."Matthew 7:7-8

Shalom.

Joey

Great post. I agree. We need to equip our kids for the future. What is also important is to bring the vision and plans before the Lord, and not to go off on a path of our own where we haven't "acknowledged God" (Prov 3:6) I have found it can become stressful, burdensome and tiring if we try and do this all in our strength. We need to take it before God, and find the peace and strength from Him.

Blessings

The Lord uses an infinite number of ways to remind us of His presence, but for me, using family relationships communicates His love like no other.

Thank you for this article. It is very timely as I struggle quite often (being OCD on steroids) with keeping things nice and neat around the house, when as you said, this too shall pass and I need to enjoy them being little. It won’t be long and those “important” things I focused on might later lead to regrets. It’s not worth it at our children’s expense.

Thanks for putting things in proper perspective (once again!).

Woot. Indeed, we've got 2 girls trained, and our youngest will be starting any day now. Poop has stopped phasing me, which probably isn't a great thing. :) But my wallet is looking forward to the day when we can stop buying diapers....such a sweet mythical land. Been buying them since August 2006. :)

Duct tape has so many uses but it is never a permanant fix. It's great for patching holes until they can be repaired, or holding something together until it can be bolted back on. It gives quick support so you can glue the pieces back together. Duct tape can hold headlights in place so you dont have to drive in the dark. It also leaves behind a visible residue that can almost never be removed, showing that duct tape was used in time of need.

When I felt lost and alone as a child and had a hole in my heart, my dad patched that hole so I could repair it on my own, making me stronger.

When I was sick and my body was falling apart, my dad was there holding me together so I could heal and be well again.

When my sprit was broken and I thought I had lost the pieces, he was there so I could glue them back together.

And when I felt there was no light ahead of me, he held the headlights in place so I wouldnt lose sight of the road crash off a cliff.

He was never a superglue dad....he didn't try to solve my problems and he didnt try to fix me. He knew that some things you can only fix on your own with time, but was and is always there to help me hold it all together until *I* can fix them.

Like duct tape, he left a residue on everything he touched and that residue is there to remind me of how much he has done over the years and how much he loves me.

I'm thankful for my duct tape dad. Without him I would have never become the person that I am today.

Yes, I think we all need fathering of different kinds at different seasons of our life, even as adults. I can emphathize with the new subscriber you mentioned in this post, but in a different way. My father is living, but our relationship has been strained for the past couple years. I need fathering advice and relationship, but it is hard right now.

Reconciliation is a two way street, and therefore can't be forced. In the meantime, I wonder if another older man should play a fathering role in my life. I sure would receive it.
