Mike,
I have struggled with similar decisions and what seemed like misdirection at times. As I look back over decades of my life I can see how God has shaped and formed me to do His work (in ways I would never have imagined). I have come to lean heavily on Jer. 29:11 - For I know what I have planned for you says the Lord. I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope. (net bible).

I tend to remind myself of Moses and the decades of preparation God sent him through to perform his ultimate task for God, leading the Israelites. I also think of King David and the life of preparation he lived as well as the life of Joseph and his being sold into slavery, to imprisonment, and eventually into power.

I have to remind myself that God doesn't work on my timeline which is short and I am impatient. He works in life-spans. I have followed what I know to be His leading and been left wondering why I was lead into it. I can only look back on Jer 29:11 and trust (prov. 3:5-6).

It sounds like you have a desire to be in vocational ministry. This is a desire God has planted in you and He will use you for this when He has prepared you. At least this is what I believe God has done with me and my desires.

I will be praying for you Mike and your future and what God in store for you.
peace,
Dallas

Thanks Mr. Watkins!

What I am curious about is how to act on something you believe God is leading you to. I mean, He isn't going to do it all right?

I responded to what I believed at the time, was a leading by Him to go back to school (Bible school this time) and get better trained for a ministry involving Christian Education and counseling. That was almost 10 years ago since I completed my work and received a Bachelors degree in Christian Education and a minor in Counseling. Despite utilizing connections, inquiries and of course, much prayer, I have never even got close to that vocation. What wisdom can you impart on this particuliar issue?
How can a person determine a God thing from just a human thing? Mike
