About once or twice a month I try to spotlight a good resource for dads to read or a good one to read aloud to your family. (After all, family reading is one of the best ways you can spend time with your children.)

If I were to ask my children to list their favorite books we’ve read together as a family, one of the books that would be near the top of their list is Faith Hunt.

It is written by Gary Keesee, a family dad who has five children, owns several businesses, pastors, speaks at conferences, hosts a weekly tv show… and loves to deer hunt.

Years ago, God spoke to Gary about his deer hunting. No, He did not tell Gary to “give it up.” Instead, He taught Gary how to trust Him for his deer.

At first, Gary had no idea what God was telling him… “Trust God for my deer?”

But each deer season, God taught Gary a new spiritual truth to apply to his deer hunting. And each deer season, Gary got his deer quickly.

Amazingly, Gary has had 100% success in bagging deer for over 16 years now.

He even has a trophy deer that ranked among the top bucks in Ohio… and of course a “deer story” to go with it.

In his book, Faith Hunt, Gary has recorded many of his deer stories as well as the spiritual truths he has learned from his hunting experiences. God’s Word and it’s truths hold the keys that have given Gary 100% success in deer hunting for over 16 years.

As a guy, you will enjoy reading Faith Hunt.

And if you have children at home to read with, they will also be captivated by these real-world hunting stories while learning key spiritual truths they can apply to their lives all the way into adulthood!

Faith Hunt is a featured resource at DadResources.com–

Here’s a cool story from a dad I met recently…

The year was 1990. Gary Keesee was a husband, a dad to 3 children, a business owner, active in a local church, and in a lot of trouble. Gary and Drenda Keesee had TEN maxed out credit cards, three finance company loans, two car payments, unpaid medical bills, $14,000 in back taxes, and they even owed their parents $26,000.

Needless to say, their circumstances felt very overwhelming.

But Gary remembers the night when God revealed to him the solution to his financial problems.

When this happened, Gary and Drenda held hands and agreed in prayer that they would not use debt any longer but would trust God for their finances.

This was quite a commitment for them because they had been leaning to debt on a regular basis to make up shortages in their cash flow.

Gary began to study his Bible, searching for answers, and applying anything he learned. When he began walking in the principles God showed him, he and Drenda paid all of that debt off in two and a half years! He began paying cash for his cars, and was even able to pay cash for 55 acres of land that his family lives on today.

Gary and Drenda Keesee now have five children whom they homeschool, three businesses, pastor a growing church in Ohio called Faith Life Church, travel internationally speaking at conferences, air a television program called “Faith Life Now”, and a new book, Fixing The Money Thing by Gary Keesee, was just released in September on the Kingdom principles God has shown him in the area of finances.

Last month, my family and I attended Gary’s conference in Florida and were able to meet and spend some time with Gary Keesee and his wife Drenda. We are now personally applying what we learned in the area of finances and business so we can carry out God’s assignment for us and our family and be a blessing to many others.

If you know another dad who is under financial stress (or anyone for that matter!), send them to this blog post to read Gary’s encouraging story.

Blessings to you and your family,

As you probably know, the US stock market had its largest single day drop in history yesterday. Many politicians at the federal level are trying their best to dump $700 billion of bad debt onto the US taxpayers. And all across the news headlines lately are stories of declining economies and financial uncertainty.

However, for us family dads, it does not have to be a season of financial despair and discouragement.

Earlier this year, my wife and I were sitting in a large church gathering when the pastor took a quick “diversion” from his sermon to make a very heart-felt and urgent plea. He said “Do whatever you have to do to get completely out of debt as soon as possible.” And then he returned to his sermon topic. My wife and I both looked at each other and felt very clearly his instruction was directed specifically to us.

Fellow dad, I want to strongly encourage you with these same words.

Debt is when we buy things we don’t currently have the money on hand to purchase. It is the result of either a failure on our part to delay a purchase until provision exists. Or it is simply used in complete ignorance of the spiritual power behind debt.

When we use debt to buy something, we are willingly placing ourselves in bondage to both the financial lender as well as in the spiritual realm. I believe it is a form of idolatry. We are replacing God by presumptuously satisfying our desires or needs through borrowing money to pay for something, instead of awaiting His provision in His timing.

Author Craig Hill says that “there is a spirit behind personal debt, which will hinder the flow of finances in one’s life.” The weight of paying back money you don’t have, along with the pile of interest that builds up, creates a form a slavery – and YOU and your family become the slaves. This is NOT what we want for ourselves nor for our family.

So again, let me pass on to you the words that so strongly resonated within me when I heard them…

“Do whatever you have to do to get completely out of debt as soon as possible.”

A helpful resource on the topic of the spiritual power behind money is Living On The Third River by Craig Hill.
